STUNNING HOUSES AROUND THE WORLD

The internet is full of special houses around the globe and we have often tried to work out what inspired the architect to develop such a unique creation. These are built for many reasons, as advertisements, for people to get away from the normal stresses of life, to attract attention, campaign and make a stand for something they believe in. We have collected 9 of the most iconic and beautiful unique homes built around the world. These Unique homes challenge our visual senses; they are inspiration and are now seen as wonderful, creative icons of the cities they are built in.

The Upside Down House – Germany

Built by Polish partners Klausdiusz Golos and Sebastian Mikiciuk, they wanted to ‘do something different’. This eye catching and cleverly designed house has attracted attention from visitors around the world. It is the only upside down house built with interior in the same way. Some people have reported feeling dizzy and disoriented when entering! Nobody would inhabit it permanently as it was built purely as an exhibit.

Toilet Shaped House – South Korea

This house was built by Sim Jae-duck, the chairman of the organizing committee of the Inaugural General Assembly of the World Toilet Association. He wanted his toilet house to highlight the global need for better sanitation. The house is made from steel, white concrete and glass with an iconic opening roof.

The Flying saucer house – Tennessee, USA

Have you ever dreamt of flying an Alien space ship well now you can live in one? In 1970 the late Curtis W. King built this unique home, he also wanted to do something different. It has not been directly associated with Star Trek but the television executives grounded the original run of the film before this house was made. The flying saucer home attracts many visitors and media attention. It features an entrance staircase that lowers and retracts with the push of a button, just like a real space ship.

The Shell House – Mexico

Called the Nautilus Shell House, this stunning home was built for a Mexico City couple by Senosiain Arquitectos. Created because the family wanted to be more connected with the beauty of nature, this house has allowed them to escape their city lifestyle. The design, colours and features of the house are truly unique and stunning. The house is put together using a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a concrete spread over it, an earthquake proof structure, beautiful and safe to live in.

This charming, modern Stone Age home was uncovered in Portugal. It has a prehistoric feel with the huge boulder that has beautiful shape.

The Fish House – California

Designed to look like the sea, this amazing house was developed by Florence and William Tsui. Known as the safest house in the world, the structure is based upon the most indestructible living creature, the Tardigrade. It is designed to deal with any natural disaster from earthquakes, to floods and fires, (we read somewhere even termites!)

The Basket Building – Ohio USA

Not really a home, but a building worth talking about. It belongs to the Longaberger Company in the USA; they make baskets and other similar products. Its sole reason was to attract attention to the company with its unusual design and help build a better brand. The large market basket cost $30 million to build. The seven story atrium has a beautiful interior and has been the perfect advertising step for designer and owner of the company Dave Longaberger.
